Move over Thonglor, Ekamai has a few new places to showcase.
Other than the rooftop renovations at Fuzio (Ekamai soi 7), the name change of the big club next to Fuzio ("Brownie" to "Tipsy Theory"), and a gym called Pushing Limitz... there are 2 new hotspots in Ekamai...... but you would never know.

Tucked behind residential areas are two places you would never find unless you knew exactly where they were.

Baan Ekamai was my first attempt to find one of Ekamai's hidden secrets.

I heard “ Baan Ekamai ” was a new mall so naturally I had to check it out. Their map is hand drawn and the first attempt to find the place failed. There were no signs or markers to indicate this hidden gem.

My second attempt found me driving down every road in Ekamai soi 21 only to succeed at the last one - the smallest little soi next to the Cham Chan school. This "mall" was really not a mall (like Park Lane Ekamai) but more of a cozy hangout spot with a couple of cute boutiques and eateries that turn into places that serve alcohol at night.

There is a creative and artsy feeling attached to this local complex - a place where you can hang in the high end neighbourhood without your Jimmy Choos. Talk about music and art without any pretense. Get inspired by the fashion and feel funky when you blend in. This place found our curiousity stirred as we peeled through the different layers of eccentric glamour. What feels like an education institution has been remodelled into modern day funk, with casual clothes.

The second place I heard about was 6ixcret - I knew exactly where it was in Ekamai soi 6 but if no one told me, I honestly would not venture that far down the road as it is all private houses and apartment buildings.

I brought a big group of friends to 6ixcret to take advantage of their 666 baht for a bottle of Johnny Walker red label. We moved from inside to outside because the sheesha was so tempting and ordered some "Thai beer food". The prices were definitely decent and at the particular day we went which was a Chinese New Year weekend, we played their "ang pao" game (receive a red surprise package when you enter in your email) and won 3 bottles of Johnny Walker black and red labels.

Although there was a confusion with using our newly earned gift certificates, the owners were generous in offering us an upgrade from red to black label. What more can you ask for when the band, staff and atmosphere were friendly.. not to mention interesting with high end cars parked outside but a relaxed atmosphere inside. It was a perfect place to take your friends to a chilled environment where you can drink and hear each other speak.
